Welcome to the web site of The Nurses’ Apron Partnership (TNAP), a grassroots group of American nurses and their friends, who are committed to supporting nurses in remote areas of Kenya. In the midst of the continent-wide health crisis in Africa Click here to read story , these enterprising native Kenyan RN’s are opening clinics and working heroically to provide basic healthcare services to their own villages and surrounding areas, in the face of limited supplies, meager facilities, and minimal support. TNAP is partnering with Burning Bush, Inc., a non-profit microlending organization supporting community development initiatives in Central Kenya, to fund additional training and education for these nurses. To read the inspirational story of Jocelyn Macharia, the first nurse to benefit from TNAP’s efforts, click here

We invite you to explore this website and learn more about how a collection of vintage kitchen aprons from Tennessee sparked an idea that inspired 50 RN friends and colleagues to form The Nurses’ Apron Partnership. By extending our apron strings around the world, we are marshaling our fellow nurses and others who value the role nurses play in healthcare delivery, to support our dedicated counterparts in Kenya.

If you are a nurse, wish to honor a nurse, or just want to have a part in helping courageous nurses on the front lines of the public health crisis in Africa, please make a contribution through TNAP’s donor portal. Every donation makes a difference to these Kenyan nurses and to the people who depend on them for basic care.

Our book, Gotcha Covered: a Legacy of Service and Protection, was published September 8, 2009 to rave reviews and our launch party was Oct. 24, 2009. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be used to further our mission of equipping nurses in Central Kenya to improve and maintain care delivery. Information about purchasing is available in the box to the right of this article.

If you make a donation through TNAP’s portal in honor of or in memory of a special nurse, we will recognize those nurses in the special section below.
